A lot of my interest I attribute to things like How and Why books and the the tv programs introducing us to other cultures. But it was also reinforced by SF. Andre Norton for one really exposed me to archaeology through races like the Zacathan scholars or the introduction of native American characters. As I read I found more and more SF was based on anthropological themes. I love it still.

Thanks for commenting
Guy

Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12546069846136464138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898257022341976644.post-67237195714864615092019-04-21T12:36:24.893-07:002019-04-21T12:36:24.893-07:00The 50's have always been my favorite SF era d...The 50's have always been my favorite SF era due to the prevalence of social/historical themes. Reading this stuff growing up planted the seeds of a lifelong interest in anthropology and material culture.paintedjaguarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12543155841059132978noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898257022341976644.post-69171507343550965822019-04-17T21:34:21.104-07:002019-04-17T21:34:21.104-07:00Hi James

I do really think this is probably Piper's best story and a real rarity for it's time.

Guy

Guyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12546069846136464138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898257022341976644.post-34015744470485045722019-04-11T17:22:10.937-07:002019-04-11T17:22:10.937-07:00Well Guy, you answered one of my questions about P...Well Guy, you answered one of my questions about Piper. I wonder if Piper got the idea for using the Periodic Table from Smith, or invented it separately on his own. I don't remember reading the Smith story but I bought A Treasury of Great Science Fiction back in the 1960s and may have. I'll go read Smith's story.Jim Harrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09953679196185650753noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898257022341976644.post-77276373773984362052017-05-09T03:47:16.355-07:002017-05-09T03:47:16.355-07:00Hi

I feel Piper really reflected that strong history/political centric element in SF of the period and should be better known.

Regards
GuyGuyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12546069846136464138noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7898257022341976644.post-62213520860323658252017-05-06T19:33:47.815-07:002017-05-06T19:33:47.815-07:00Thank you.
